Making Pottery on the Wheel
Location: Troy
Overview: Learn how to make beautiful bowls like the ones you admire
in boutiques with this hands-on class. Students will work hands-on in clay under
the guidance of the instructor. Walk away with your own creations, glazed, kiln
fired and ready to display!
Topics: wheel throwing techniques • throwing small cylinder forms and
bowls • trimming • surface decoration such as carving and slip trailing •
glazing • kiln firing
Instructors: Doug Klein
is a full-time potter and
pottery instructor. He is also a Founding Member of the Albany Saratoga Pottery
Trail, a small guild of working regional potters who host a bi-annual tour of
area potteries as a way of entertaining and educating the public about the rich
history and legacy of potters and potteries in the region.
John Visser (Saturday classes) has been working at the potters wheel for
many, many years. At age 12 John saw Toshiko Takeasu throwing pots on public
television and it changed his life. After seeing this, he knew he had to work
with clay.
Studio fee: $75 (paid at time of registration)
