The Potter's Wheel
Location: Troy
Overview:
In this all-levels course, students will learn how to throw
on the potters wheel and continue to develop wheel throwing skills, refine
techniques, and explore the creative aspects of the medium. Students will learn
how to throw vases, bowls, pots and more! Carving and slip trailing for surface
decoration will embellish creations, which will be glazed and kiln-fired. This
is a fun, hands-on course for everyone.
Topics: wheel throwing techniques throwing small cylinder forms and
bowls trimming surface decoration such as carving and slip trailing
glazing kiln firing
Instructors: John Visser has been working at the potters wheel for
many, many years. At age 12 John saw Toshiko Takeasu throwing pots on public
television and it changed his life. After seeing this, he knew he had to work
with clay.
