What is My Old Book Worth?

Location: Guilderland

Overview: Did you inherit some old books from a relative? Buy some at a garage sale or flea market? Not every old book is valuable, but many are, and this class can tell you what makes an old book a potentially valuable one. Learn about the types of books people collect, and the factors (such as the edition, illustrator, and condition) that can make one more valuable than another. You will also learn how to evaluate your books, and receive advice on ways to sell them when you are ready to do so. The class will also include a free verbal evaluation of up to three books from each student.

Topics: fun of collecting old books • types of collections • book values and why prices vary • Identification • determining the edition • sources of price information Internet - Amazon, eBay • donations - a tax deduction may be better than a sale • book evaluations
