The Surprise of Poetry
Location: Colonie
Overview: Surprise is the secret of good poetry. In this class, you
will learn some simple, fun techniques for starting or revising a poem and
getting it published. No prior experience with writing or with poetry is
necessary. Writing and sharing in class will be encouraged but not required.
Helpful handouts will be supplied.
Topics: "Surprise" as a definition of poetry • how to write a poem in
one sitting • how to add surprising words, images, metaphors, sounds,
structures, and endings to your poem how to get your poem published
Instructor: Albany poet Therese L. Broderick has published locally and
nationally and has won local and national awards. She has years of poetry
experience as a writer, public
reader, teacher, blogger, and critique participant. She serves as an officer of
the Hudson Valley Writers Guild (www.hvwg.org).
